History

Werkmatt Uri in the area Eyschachen, southwest of the Altdorf railway station, is the last large land reserve in the Uri valley. The 12-hectare area is situated between the railway and the Gotthard motorway A2. It was first used during the First World War, as direct access to the railway was necessary. The most prominent examples of this are the two government grain silos built by the architects Eduard Züblin and Robert Maillart in 1912/1913. For a long time they were listed monuments and will remain landmarks of the business park Werkmatt Uri, but they are available for diverse uses. As part of the large-scale project 'Developmental Focus Uri Valley Floor’, the area has been given additional potential for industry, trade and service businesses. The government has invested an eight-figure sum in the area between the new cantonal railway station and the new motorway connection Altdorf south.
